What is free, and what is not built yet

Free — shipping todayPlanned paid tier — not built, not for sale
The Japanese lexicon offline (291,960 headwords, 225,105 readings, 71,186 inflected forms); optional live Lingua Mundi API lookup; the other five languages as labelled 13-word samples. A full grammar (UD) layer and offline definitions, guarded by a licence file verified on your machine. Until it exists there is nothing to buy, and this page will not pretend otherwise.

Where the data comes from

The lexicon is a compilation of open works — 97 sources, 60 of them carrying a ShareAlike obligation, principally the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group's JMdict and KANJIDIC2 (CC BY-SA), Japanese WordNet, J-UniMorph and EJDict. The database was modified for this app: rows were merged across sources, readings were ranked, and the records reduced to the fields a lookup needs. Every installer ships attribution.html naming each source and its licence, and this app is neither produced by nor affiliated with EDRDG or the Wikimedia Foundation.
